Governor Greg Abbott declares October Human Resources Awareness Month
Governor Greg Abbott has declared October as Human Resources Awareness month, a month set aside to recognize and honor the important contributions made by school personnel who work in human resources. Human resources personnel work hard each day to ensure that our schools are staffed with high quality employees and that those employees have a good environment in which to work.
Edna ISD will observe October 12th as Texas Education Human Resources Day. We encourage students, staff, and parents to express their appreciation to our Human Resource Director, Madalyn Maresh and to team member, Jan Wooldridge for their dedication and commitment to Edna ISD employees and students. We appreciate their efforts.

There is a reference in the book “Good to Great” about a flywheel mentality that can be used in propelling Edna ISD along our journey to academic excellence. The “flywheel” analogy from the book, which was hard to push and turn the first time, will begin to spin easier and faster if more people are helping to push it in the same direction, eventually it will spin faster. We have generated momentum moving forward, and I want to expand on that to push growth for all students and for the district as a whole. I am proud of our efforts in 2015-16 but as with most things in life worthy of note—it is a never-ending push of one’s self and the system as a whole that brings the greatest rewards and feelings of satisfaction and accomplishment. Together we can “Cowboy Up” and push towards our goals.
At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees it is boiling. Boiling water produces steam which can power a locomotive. That is all produced in that 1 degree. How many of us go through life at 211 degrees rather than doing our best and breaking through to 212? Not that we do not fully intend to be at 212 degrees on a daily basis, but obstacles and situations can drain that one degree of effort. In my opinion, that one degree is the difference in taking us from good to great and a rallying point for all to commit to action on a daily basis to produce an environment where quality and innovation are the new norm rather than the exception. We are all one Cowboy Nation and working towards Improving Our Brand.
We are excited about the prospects and performance for our fine arts programs in Band, Choir, Spurs, and Art. Our student performances in One Act Play as well as UIL Academic meets was awe inspiring and we look forward to building on those positive results.
We are excited about the improvement to district facilities in terms of the complete renovation of the Edna Auditorium. It is a first class facility that will allow us to host not only our local events but also district and regional competitions. We are proud of the image of Edna ISD and thank our Board of Education for providing the resources needed to help make our students successful in their chosen endeavors.
